Park Rx Day bike tour Sunday at Fort Stanwix


Fort Stanwix National Monument will offer a bicycle tour of the Mohawk River in Rome on Sunday, April 29.

This special ride, in honor of Park Rx Day, will last approximately one hour round trip, beginning at the Fort Stanwix visitor center at 10 a.m. and continue on the Mohawk River Trail. 

National Park Rx Day is a national celebration promoting the growing movement of prescribing parks and nature to people to improve mental and physical health.

“Park Rx Day is a perfect reason to get out and enjoy the fresh air,” said Ranger Dan Umstead, “This ride should be healthy, fun, and family-friendly way to get out doors on the last day of spring break.”  

Participants are encouraged to wear their helmet and bring water, and sunscreen. This ride is recommended for those ages 15 and older.

If someone would like to participate but does not own a bike, they can take advantage of the Rome Bike Share Program available at the Fort Stanwix (visitor center) station, the Chestnut Street Trail (Mohawk River Trail) station, and the Bellamy Harbor Park station.  For more information on the Rome Bike Share Program and bike station locations visit

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission  to the park is free.
