Palmer and Engler lead VVS to hoops win over rival Oneida


The backcourt duo of Nate Palmer and Jake Engler combined to score 35 points for the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys basketball team in its 65-49 victory over Tri-Valley League foe Oneida on Tuesday night.

Palmer scored a game-high 18 points and Engler chipped in with 17 points for the Red Devils.

Dewey Roden scored 13 points and both Davey Moffett and TJ Horodnick added seven each.

Alex Vaccaro led the Indians with 17 points and John Jones and Vinny Leibl scored 11 and 10 points respectively for Oneida in the loss.

VVS ends the season with a 15-4 overall record and 8-3 mark in the TVL, while Oneida is 8-12 overall and 5-6 in TVL play.

Loss for Westmoreland

Despite losing 55-46 to Cooperstown, Westmoreland clinched a share of the Center State Conference Division III league title.

Game details were unavailable at press time.

Westmoreland finishes the regular season with a record of 16-4 overall and 7-1 in league play. Cooperstown also went 7-1 in the league.
