ONEIDA LAKE — Two men were charged with unsafely operating personal watercrafts on Oneida Lake Sunday when they collided with each other while weaving.
Madison County Sheriff’s Navigation Patrol deputies said Jose A. Medina, 33, of Syracuse, and Juan L. Perez, 60, of Trumansburg, were weaving in and out of each other when Medina drove his watercraft into the side of Perez’s watercraft, causing a collision at 7:21 p.m. Perez suffered a left ankle injury as a result, but refused medical treatment by a crew from Vineall Ambulance who responded to the scene, deputies said.
Both operators were charged with reckless operation and operating a personal watercraft without a safety certificate. Deputies said Medina also fled the scene, so he was issued an additional charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Both men will appear in Lenox Town Court. State police and Bridgeport Fire Department assisted.
