Pair of state grant applications to benefit businesses approved by county lawmakers

Posted

Two state grant applications on behalf of firms planning upgrades were approved by the Oneida County Board of Legislators last week.

A total of $300,000 is being requested from the state Office of Community Renewal. Sherrill Manufacturing is slated to get $180,000 to modernize its flatware production facilities in the former Oneida Ltd. factory in Sherrill while S.R. Sloan in Whitestown is in line for $120,000 to expand manufacturing capabilities for wood trusses and pre-engineered wood wall panels.

No county dollars are involved. The Office of Community Renewal administers the federal Community Development Block Grant program in New York.

Sherrill Manufacturing, 102 E. Seneca St., pledges to create 12 jobs while Sloan, 8111 Halsey Road, plans to add eight full-time positions over two years. Mohawk Valley EDGE administers the grant program on behalf of the county.
