Pair displaced as Floyd firefighters douse blaze

TOWN OF FLOYD — Two people have been displaced after a basement fire on Kriswood Drive early Thursday morning.

Floyd Fire Chief Dan Schwertfeger said the fire started in the basement sometime around 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the residence at 7688 Kriswood Drive.

The home had been converted into two apartments, and both residents made it out safely — with responding firefighters rescuing a dog from one of the apartments. The chief said firefighters took a hose line down into the basement and knocked down the flames in a matter of minutes.

He said the fire damage was contained to the basement and its contents, with smoke damage throughout the home.

The two residents have been displaced. The chief said no one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he stated. The Floyd and Stittville fire departments responded.
