Pair busted for cocaine during traffic stop

Two Rome men were busted with 3.5 grams of cocaine and other drugs during a traffic stop on North Madison Street Sunday night.

Police said Larry T. Russell, 38, of 408 S. George St., was pulled over in the 500 block after running the stop sign at the intersection with West Embargo Street. Officer Rory J. Spain conducted the traffic stop.

Once stopped, police said they detected the odor of marijuana from the vehicle.

The car was searched and quantities of marijuana and prescription pills were seized, along with 3.5 grams of cocaine, authorities stated.

Russell and passenger Brian P. Thomas, 35, of 306 S. George St., were both taken into custody on one count each of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, police said.

Russell was additionally charged with running the stop sign.

Both men are scheduled to appear in City Court.
