Pair accused of fighting with Rome police during neighborhood dispute
ROME — A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl are both facing charges for fighting with police officers on Locomotive Avenue in Rome Saturday night, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Joshua N. Wiley, 20, of Rome, called 911 at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday to report a dispute with his neighbors.
Once officers were on scene, police said Wiley became irate and stated that he would take matters into his own hands, and he started to go to his neighbor’s home.
The officers attempted to stop Wiley, at which point police said he shoved the officers and started struggling with them.
A 17-year-old girl at the residence then jumped onto an officer’s back and attempted to join the scuffle. The teenage girl was detained and police said a butcher knife was found hidden in her sweater. The girl’s identity was not released due to her young age.
Wiley is charged with second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police stated.
The girl is charged with second-degree harassment, criminal possession of a weapon, obstruction of a governmental administration and resisting arrest, authorities said. Both are scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
