Overdose at home of Madison County assistant district attorney under investigation

NELSON — A drug overdose that took place in the home of a member of the Madison County District Attorney's Office is under investigation, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they were dispatched to a home on Tuscarora Road in the town of Nelson for two unresponsive people at about 8:55 p.m. July 30. Investigators said the two people had ingested cocaine and were overdosing.

Officers on scene administered multiple doses of the overdose-halting drug Narcan and the pair were treated at a Syracuse hospital, investigators said. They were released from the hospital following treatment.

A field test of the cocaine revealed that it was laced with fentanyl, a deadly opioid, investigators said.

The home on Tuscarora Road is the residence of Assistant District Attorney Bradley J. Moses. Authorities did not say if Moses was one of the overdosing people, or if he is the one who called 911. Good Samaritan laws in New York allow people who call 911 during drug overdoses to avoid criminal charges.

Madison County District Attorney Williams G. Gabor said Moses is completing a Family Leave application "to address a personal problem and has offered his resignation; which will be accepted."

The incident, including the origins of the fentanyl-laced cocaine, remains under investigation, authorities said. Anyone with information on the tainted narcotics is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 315-366-2311.
