‘Other Desert Cities’ takes stage at RCT this weekend

Rome Community Theater will present “Other Desert Cities” by Jon Robin Baitz, starting Thursday, at the theater, 8911 Turin Road.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 11-13, and a matinee show is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Produced with permission by Dramatists Play Service, Inc., the production will star several well known area actors. Richard K. Stoodley, Linda LaPorte, Valerie Abel, Eileen Tiller Clanton and Tim Huey will portray the members of a family haunted by a tragedy that they are unable to overcome. How they deal with this — individually and as a family — makes this a story that is as pertinent today as when it takes place in 2004.

In the 1970s, writing about how a family shaped one’s life was part of a cultural revolution that continues today. The memoir written about this family includes politics, addiction, reputations, and secrets. It threatens to shatter the lives of everyone involved. The members of this family must decide whether or not it will break them and what they must do to survive.

Denise Borek Morganti is directing this drama which has elements of humor. The assistant director is Eric Almleaf. Reservations are strongly recommended, according to RCT officials. People may call 315-337-5920 for reservations or more information. Information is also available on the group’s website at www.romecommunitytheater.org.
