CLINTON — Riders will saddle up for the Oriskany Creek Farm’s fifth annual Barrel Race, starting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the farm at 7580 Old Bristol Road.

The rodeo-style event, known for quick turns and high speeds, will feature riders and horses competing for the fastest time as they run a cloverleaf pattern around three preset barrels set up in a triangular pattern.

Each rider must turn each barrel in a cloverleaf pattern as fast as they can before heading across the timer line. The event is free to the public and open to people of any age, organizers say, adding that spectators “don’t have to be a western enthusiast to watch this edge-of-your-seat competition, while also enjoying a delicious chicken barbecue, raffles, and more.”

“We are deeply grateful to Becky Czarnocki, owner of Oriskany Creek Farm, for continuing to support veterans being treated at Sitrin,” Rosemary Bonacci, vice president, Sitrin Foundation & Communications, said. “This unique fundraiser creates exciting opportunities for people to showcase their amazing horsemanship skills, fun opportunities for people and families to come together, while also ensuring that Sitrin can continue to provide local veterans with the best care possible.”

All proceeds from this event will benefit Sitrin’s Military Program, which provides care to veterans affected by post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, amputations, suicidal ideations, and other combat-related conditions. Sitrin’s program is a blend of both conventional and non-traditional therapy techniques, tailored to each veteran’s specific needs.
