TOWN OF LENOX — An Oneida woman has been charged with several felonies after law enforcers said she unlawfully received more than $6,000 in public assistance over the course of a year and a half.
Sheriff’s deputies said Samantha Baumeister, 36, filed for public assistance from the Madison County Department of Social Services and provided false documentation about her total household income. Deputies said Baumeister unlawfully received $6,426 between August 2015 and January 2017.
Baumeister was taken into custody on May 13 on one count each of third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and third-degree perjury, authorities said. She was arraigned in Town Court and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court on June 11.
