Oneida headed to state semifinals for first time

EAST SYRACUSE — The Section III champion Oneida softball team scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over Waverly and won 3-1 in Friday’s Class B regional at Carrier Park.

The Indians improved to 23-1 overall with their 21st straight win and moved on to the state semifinals against the winner of today’s regional game between Section V’s Waterloo and Eden of Section VI.

The game will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Moreau. The championship game will be later that day at 4.

It will be Oneida’s first-ever appearance in the state semifinals.

The Indians gave up a run in the top of the third on Friday, but that was it.

Kyra Shlotzhauer went the distance for Oneida on the mound, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out 10.

Lauren Skibitski had two hits and drove in a run for Oneida. Kaylin Curro had a hit, scored and drove in one.

Adriana Chapa scored twice and had a hit.
