Oneida County Republican lawmaker backs Cornwell for Congress


Broome County District Attorney and 22nd District congressional candidate Steve Cornwell has been endorsed by George Joseph, Republican majority leader of the Oneida County Board of Legislators, Cornwell’s campaign announced.

Joseph represents District 10 consisting of parks of Kirkland, Rome and Westmoreland and ran unopposed in Tuesday’s election. He runs North Star Orchards farm market and bakery in Westmoreland. Cornwell’s campaign produced a video in which Joseph explains why he endorsed Cornwell.

Cornwell is seeking the Republican nomination for the 22nd District, which includes all of Oneida, Madison, Chenango, Oswego and Cortland counties, southern Herkimer County, part of Tioga County and most of Broome County, including Binghamton. The other announced Republican candidates are former Congressman Claudia Tenney of New Hartford, George Phillips of the Binghamton area, and Franklin Sager also of the Binghamton area. Incumbent Anthony Brindisi, a Democrat from Utica, faces no announced Democrat.
