UTICA — A bond resolution for a downtown hospital parking garage was approved during a Wednesday Oneida County Board of Legislature meeting.

The 30-year bond paves the way for construction of the parking garage at a maximum estimated cost of $50,900,000 and authorizes the issue of $30,900,000 in bonds.

The price tag includes the parking garage, a heli-pad, site improvements and other related expenses for the structure that will rest  near the now-under-construction Wynn Hospital (which is seated in the Lafayette, Columbia and State Street vicinity) of the Mohawk Valley Health System.

Additional funding for the structure - which is expected to break ground in mid-May and be completed in October of 2023 - will also be funded by $10,000,000 in grants and $10,000,000 secured through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, according to documents.

Bids on the project are expected to be opened in mid-April, county legislators said.

• The county legislature also passed an agreement between the Oneida County Emergency Services and the New York State Department of Homeland Security.

This measure would approve a $781,082 grant agreement between the county’s Department of Emergency Services and the state Division of Homeland Security.

The project work entails continued expansion of the county’s public safety radio system.
