Oneida County has 106 new COVID-19 cases


In Oneida County, there were 106 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death on Wednesday.

As of Thursday afternoon, there were 1,059 active cases of the pandemic virus in Oneida County.

The positivity rate for the county was 4.3%.

There were 63 Oneida County residents hospitalized (35 unvaccinated/28 vaccinated) with 31 at Mohawk Valley Health System, 20 at Rome Health and 12 out of the county. The positivity rate for the Mohawk Valley was 5.09%

Officials continue to call for vaccination.

On Twitter, Gov. Kathy Hochul provided an update on state vaccine mandates in the healthcare industry, noting: “Vaccine mandates work. As of 10/7: 92% of nursing home staff have at least one vaccine dose, up from 71% … 87% of hospital staff are fully vaccinated, up from 77% … This means staff are safer, hospitals patients are safer, and nursing home residents are safer.”

MVHS opens testing site

On Monday, Oct. 18, the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) will begin offering COVID-19 testing by appointment only at its COVID Testing Trailer located at the St. Luke’s Campus, 1656 Champlin Ave., Utica. The service is being offered through a partnership between MVHS and the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps (COCVAC). 

Community members needing a COVID test should contact their primary care physician to schedule an appointment. Patients without access to a primary care provider can call the New York State COVID Testing Hotline at 888-364-3065, or visit for a full list of available testing sites.

Appointments are only available with a physician’s order, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Physicians and individual practices can schedule an appoint by calling MVHS Central Scheduling at 315-624-4600 or by fax at 315-624-4610. Patients who receive an appointment should arrive at the trailer only at their scheduled time.
