Oneida Carry topic of historical society meeting Oct. 10

Town of Western Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at Liberty Hall, Main Street, Westernville.

This months topic is “The Great Oneida Carrying Place: Strategic Supply Route of the British Empire During the French and Indian War.” The presentation will highlight the Carry’s vital geographic location and how it played a critical role in the French and Indian War, organizers said. It also demonstrates how that geographic location remained vital as our nation began its westward growth.

John Carmody, president of The Fort Bull Research Group, which began in 2011, is the presenter. The mission of the group is to research the history of the Oneida Carry and preserve the Fort Wood Creek site, educate the public and conduct tours of the Fort Wood Creek site. Refreshments will be served.
