Oneida Area Civic Chorale awards senior scholarship
ONEIDA — The Oneida Area Civic Chorale has awarded its 2022 Senior Scholarship to Marguerite Neth of Greenway-New London Road, Verona, a student at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.
The Chorale offers scholarships to area high school seniors who have displayed musical talent in school and community performances and plan to engage in musical study beyond high school, either as music majors or in extracurricular areas.
Neth, an accomplished flute player, will receive $500 toward her future study of music.
She has studied privately with Amanda Yeoman of Oneida for nine years. While at VVS, she participated in various music groups, as well as extra-curricular groups such as the Symphoria Youth Orchestra, Allegro Youth Winds Ensemble, All-County Festivals, and NYSSMA. She is also a past winner of the B-Sharp Music Society Scholarship.
“Marguerite overcame obstacles and did whatever it took, for however long she needed, to become the amazing, well-rounded musician that she is today,” Yeoman said.
She regularly performs at nursing homes, churches, fundraisers and any other local events where she may be needed. In addition to performing, Neth has a great interest in the business aspect of music.
She plans to attend the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam and major in music industry/music business, while continuing to play the flute.
Her future aspirations include owning a music store or possibly seeking employment at a flute manufacturing facility.
She plans to apply the scholarship money to the purchase of a piccolo, which will further
enhance her musicianship.
