BOONVILLE — One person is dead and several more were injured after a head-on crash on Route 12 on Saturday night, according to law enforcement officials.

Cary A. Croniser, 42, of Boonville, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Troopers said that Rakwan D. Marshall, 22, of Liverpool, Onondaga County, was southbound on Route 12 at about 7:30 p.m. when he veered into the northbound lane in order to pass the vehicle ahead of him. Troopers said Marshall’s 2020 Mercedes then crashed head-on into an oncoming 2010 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Sarah J. Stinebrickner, 38, of Boonville.

Croniser was a passenger in Stinebrickner’s vehicle, authorities said.

Stinebrickner, Marshall and a 19-year-old passenger in Marshall’s vehicle were all taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities said. Stinebrickner was last listed in critical condition, troopers stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
