One killed in Thruway accident

TOWN OF SULLIVAN — One person was killed after two people were struck by a tractor trailer on the Thruway in Madison County shortly after midnight today, according to law enforcement officials.

State police said a 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage was stopped in the driving lane near mile marker 270 in the westbound lane shortly after 12:30 a.m. Troopers said James F. Bowen, 21, and Grace L. Wilson, 24, both of Syracuse, were outside the vehicle in the middle of the highway when they were struck by a westbound tractor trailer in the passing lane.

Troopers said both were taken to University Hospital in Syracuse. Wilson was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Bowen is in critical condition, troopers said.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 37-year-old Kenneth A. Finn, of Geneva, and a third person from the car were not injured. The third person, a passenger, had remained in the vehicle.

The crash occurred between exits 34 and 34A. Troopers said the investigation is continuing.
