One dead, one airlifted in late night crash

One woman is dead and one man was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after their bicycles were hit by an oncoming car at Black River Boulevard and East Dominick Street late Thursday night.
City fire officials said the two bicyclists were crossing the boulevard from East Dominick Street when their bicycles were struck by a southbound car shortly before midnight. The female bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The male cyclist was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse, officials said. The helicopter touched down in the parking lot of the Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist.
Their identities have not yet been released.
Rome Police are investigating. The crash occurred in the area between Fort Stanwix and Ace Hardware. The speed limit is 30 mph in the multi-lane intersection, which is controlled by a traffic light.
Officials said two people were inside the motor vehicle. They were not injured.
The intersection was closed throughout the morning for accident reconstruction.
