SYRACUSE — Tri-Cities Opera and Syracuse Opera announced their first endeavor at co-producing an opera for the Southern Tier and Central New York.

After a successful opening performance on April 10 at the Forum Theatre in Binghamton, Rossini’s “Cinderella” will now entertain audiences at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater, 411 Montgomery St., on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m.

Tickets range from $26 to $136.

Tri-Cities officials said In this touching and hilarious Italian version of the classic fairytale, the kind-hearted Angelina (Cinderella) is forced to work for her wicked stepfather and cruel stepsisters.

Meanwhile, Prince Ramiro trades places with his valet to go door to door in disguise and find a maiden who is true of heart. As romance blossoms, Angelina’s stepfamily plots to win the prince. The story takes a few twists and turns thanks to mistaken identities, hilarious hijinks, and a bit of resulting chaos. Not to worry though, there is a ball.

In addition, Rossini’s lively melodies prove that forgiveness, kindness, and love really can conquer all! Audiences will be entertained with a performance that isn’t your fairy godmother’s “Cinderella” — there will be no blue dresses and no glasses slippers.

Diamonds are this future princess’ best friend. Set against a mid-century modern backdrop the audience will experience visuals reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s famous performance in Sabrina. This two-hour 45-minute production of “Cinderella” will offer one intermission.

The performance will be presented in Italian, with English supertitles. For more information, call 315-435-8000 or go online to www.asmsyracuse.com/events/2022/cinderella.
