OHM BOCES earn 19 awards in contest
NEW HARTFORD — The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES was recognized with 19 awards in the New York School Public Relations Association’s (NYSPRA) 2021 Annual Communications Awards, a state contest to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievement in educational communications.
Seven of the honors were Awards of Excellence, the highest level of recognition; nine were Awards of Honor, the second place level of recognition; and three were Awards of Merit, the third place level of recognition.
Earning Awards of Excellence in the Excellence in Writing category were the articles “OHM BOCES Taps into Nature with Maple Syrup Production” and “P-TECH Students Face Off in Engineering Wars,” both written by Public Relations Specialist Rebecca Neary.
Earning an Award of Excellence in the Poster category were the COVID-19 Safety Posters, designed for the New York Mills Union Free School District by Graphic Services Supervisor Andrea Rafferty. Earning an Award of Excellence in the Overall Graphics and Design category was the OHM BOCES Career & Technical Education Center’s 2021-22 Program Guide, created by Senior Graphic Artist Cheri Derdzinski.
The OHM BOCES Division Integration materials earned an Award of Excellence in the Strategic Campaign category. Additionally, the 2019-20 Utica City School District Calendar, designed by former Graphic Design Artist Carly Wright, earned Awards of Excellence in the Calendar and Overall Graphics and Design categories.
Earning Awards of Honor in the Special Purpose Publication category were the OHM BOCES 2021-22 Service Directory, created by Graphic Design Artist Kerry Zegarelli and Neary; and the OHM BOCES 2021-2022 CTE Program Guide, designed by Derdzinski. Zegarelli and Neary also earned an Award of Honor in the Annual Report category for the OHM BOCES 2021 Annual Meeting Book.
Earning Awards of Honor in the Social Media category were the Clinton Central School District Facebook page, managed by Public Relations Assistant Alyssa Sacco; and the OHM BOCES social media feeds. Earning Awards of Honor in the Overall Graphics and Design category were the OHM Learning Network materials and “Thank You” Social Media Campaign, both designed by Rafferty.
The Career & Technical Education Virtual Open House materials, created by former Graphic Design Artist Adam Brockway, Neary and Rafferty, earned an Award of Honor in the Strategic Campaign category. Also earning an Award of Honor in the Excellence in Writing category was the article “District Nurses Go Above and Beyond Usual Duties During COVID-19 Pandemic,” written for the Whitesboro Central School District by former Public Relations Assistant Rebecca Walts.
Earning Awards of Merit in the Video category were the New Hartford Superintendent Search Recruitment Video and OHM BOCES CTE Hype Video, both created by Brockway. An Award of Merit was earned in the Overall Graphics and Design category for the Division Integration: Get to Know the Assistant Superintendents Flyers, designed by Zegarelli.
The School Communications team is overseen by Jean Palmer, supervisor of communications and printing services and includes Public Relations Assistants Maria Hughes and Jerry Pritchard, and Graphic Artist Manuel Beltrán.
