Officials kick off Honor America Days Porch Decorating Contest

Calling all Rome residents — it’s time to show off your patriotic pride.

The city, in cooperation with Rome Art Association, is holding an Honor America Days Porch Decorating Contest.

Everyone is encouraged to decorate their front porches and lawns in red, white and blue, and to send photos of their work by Wednesday, July 28. RAA members are serving as judges of the contest, and winners will be announced Saturday, July 31.

Photos, as well as your home address, should be sent to: or mailed to P.O. Box 801, Rome, N.Y. 13442.

Adam Prescott Chrisman, president of RAA, said the city partnered with them to give residents the opportunity to show community and patriotic pride during this year’s Honor America Days celebration.

“We are going to be judging mainly on creativity, ingenuity and overall effort,” said Prescott Chrisman. “Literally anyone in Rome can participate. They can decorate their porch or their lawn if they don’t have a porch.”

He said RAA has already received a number of submissions. If there is a large turnout for the contest, Prescott Chrisman said the RAA may vote by districts, but that is yet to be determined. Prizes will be awarded.
