Off-campus fight leads to charges for Camden teen

VILLAGE OF CAMDEN — A 17-year-old Camden High School student is facing multiple charges after law enforcers said she attacked another student during the lunch break on Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies said the 17-year-old and a 16-year-old female student were both at the McDonald’s restaurant across the street from the high school during the Thursday lunch break. Deputies said the older teen choked the younger teen, and then the younger teen reported the attack to a special patrol officer at the school at about 11:30 a.m. Deputies responded and reviewed security camera footage from the restaurant, confirming the attack.

The 17-year-old has been charged with one count each of second-degree harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. Her identity was not released due to her young age. She is scheduled to appear in Village Court.

Authorities said the Camden Central School District is also investigating the encounter.
