October Give it a Whirl for Wellness workshops announced


Life’s challenges can sometimes be overwhelming. When that happens, discovering a network of support, friendship and hope helps people learn how to cope. It can be helpful to meet and talk with people who know exactly what you are going through, because they have been there, too.

The free drop-in support group, “Give it a Whirl for Wellness,” is a creative way to socialize, help and be helped by others with similar conditions or circumstances.

The group meets Mondays beginning Oct. 1 during the month of October for anyone coping with health and wellness challenges. The group is led by the Center for Family Life and Recovery in collaboration with Rome Memorial Hospital Radiation Medicine.

“Give it a Whirl” for Wellness is an opportunity for people learning to cope with health and wellness challenges, whether it is quitting smoking for good, overcoming illness or treatments, or facing life changes, to meet with others in similar situations. More than a support group, it gives Individuals, family and friends an opportunity to come together in a welcoming, comfortable, and inspiring way.

The sessions are held at Rome Memorial Hospital Radiation Medicine, 107 E. Chestnut St.:

  • Oct. 1, 2-3 p.m.: Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • Oct. 8, 6-7 p.m.: Friendship Bracelets
  • Oct. 15, 2-3 p.m.: Apple Carvings
  • Oct. 22, 6-7 p.m.: Leather Wallets
  • Oct. 29, 2-3 p.m.: Painted Pumpkins

The public is encouraged to attend any or all of the gatherings. No registration is necessary. There is easy access and plenty of parking on the east side of the building.

“Our informal group is centered around a creative activity,” said Amy Weakley, director of Rome Memorial Hospital Radiation Medicine. “Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, you will be encouraged by what you will create during this time of sharing and learning from others.”
