NYSGA announces 2023 Amateur Series schedule
The New York State Golf Association has announced its 2023 Amateur Series schedule which includes nearly 20 individual stroke play events across the state.
This year’s series will once again kick off at Turning Stone Resort & Casino, with the opening event at Shenendoah Golf Club in Verona on May 11 and finish with the final regular-season stop at Edison Club in Rexford on Sept. 11.
Several more sites will be added to the schedule as they are confirmed with the host clubs.
The lineup of handicapped (gross and net) stroke play events has become a way for Association member golfers across New York to experience private golf courses, compete against others on a level and fair playing field, and earn pro shop prizes within their divisions and flights.
The events are open to Association members with active, up-to-date licensed USGA Handicap Indexes. Each field is borken down into four divisions: Men, Senior Men (55-plus), Super Senior Men (65-plus) and Women. Due to stronger participation levels, the Men and Senior Men divisions are then further divided into A and B flights based on handicap.
Players will earn points towards the 2023 NYSGA Amateur Series Championship based on their net finish within their flight. A player’s points total will consist of the sum of their top five tournament finishes. The top 120 players on the points list by season’s end will earn invitations to compete in the 2023 Championship which will be hosted by Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora (home of the 2023 NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur).
Entry fees for these one-day events include greens, cart and range fees, exclusive tee gifts and prizes. The top net and gross finishers will receive prizes — pro shop gift certificates — at the end of each event.
Registration for the first wave of events is now open.
The first group of events will run from May 11 to April 26.
The first two events will be May 11 at Shenendoah and then May 12 at Kaluhyat Golf Course, both at Turning Stone. The next local course to host will be Seven Oaks in Hamilton on June 19.
The events from July 10 though Sept. 11 will have online registration at later date. There are no local courses among the seven in that stretch.
