Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Alicia Elwood has joined Rome Medical Practice’s obstetrics and gynecology practice, All About Women.
She is accepting new patients at the office located in the Beeches Office Complex, 7900 Turin Road.
Elwood joins obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. C. Nicole Pineau, who joined Rome Memorial Hospital’s medical staff in October.
“We are pleased to welcome Alicia to All About Women,” said Rome Medical Practice Administrator Lisa Taurisano. “Alicia has been caring for women and their families for 13 years, including three years in a busy obstetrics and gynecology office where she treated a variety of reproductive and obstetric conditions. Competent in obstetrics and gynecological care, she offers a wealth of experience and knowledge for the care of our patients.”
Elwood graduated from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing with a registered nursing degree. After eight years of nursing, including experience in pediatrics and home care case management, she earned certification as a family nurse practitioner at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Marcy.
“As an OB/GYN nurse practitioner, I spend time getting to know my patients so we can work in collaboration toward the goal of maintaining their good health,” Elwood explained.
“I would like my patients to know that when they come into the office for appointments, my goal is to help then address any concerns they have,” she continued.“Health care is a process. It may take more than one office visit to arrive at the best diagnosis and sometimes it requires a referral to other specialties. Patients know I am their advocate and will do my best to get them properly treated.”
A life-long resident of the Utica-Rome area, Elwood chose Rome Medical Practice Obstetrics and Gynecology because it is close to home.
“I want to provide health care to the women in this area so they can stay close to home, too. I look forward to working with the great team at All About Women,” she said.
Elwood encourages women to take care of their health by:
Getting adequate calcium and vitamin D either through diet or supplements.
Staying up-to-date on health screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies and bone density exams.
Making sure to schedule yearly appointments with your ob/gyn.
“Annual gynecological exams are crucial for women,” Elwood said. “It is not only important to track any changes in your overall and gynecological health, but it is also an important opportunity to speak with your health care provider about any issues or concerns you may have.”
