Norman L. “Norm” Swinney, 91, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2019 at the Colonial Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Ironton, OH, on December 15, 1927 he was the son of the late Ira Lee and Cora (Epperly) Swinney. He was a 1945 graduate of Rome Free Academy and on February 13, 1959 he was united in marriage to Beverly Bower.
Norm owned and operated Norm’s Garage in Rome for several years. He was a member of the Rome Weslyan Church and he was a Charter Member of the Tappet Twirlers Car Club.
Surviving besides his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly, are two daughters, Lindy Swinney of Phoenix, AZ, and Margaret (Gary) Williamson of Ava; three sons, Lee Swinney of Rome, Zeb (Jennifer) Swinney of Rome and Jesse (Danielle) Swinney of Rome; and five grandchildren, Cory Williamson, Mike and Carrie Lewis, and Connor and Charlotte Swinney. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys Thomas and Dorothy Edick; and a brother, Jesse “Rudy” Swinney.
Norm’s family would like to thank the Drs., nurses and staff at Colonial Park Nursing and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care and compassion.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
