No injuries reported as car hits train in New Hartford
NEW HARTFORD — No one was injured when a car crashed into a passing train on Route 840 in New Hartford on Wednesday, according to the New Hartford Police Department.
Police said Kyler Wheat, 19, of New Hartford, was westbound on Route 840 shortly after noon on Wednesday when he didn’t stop for a steady red light or for the passing train.
Police said Wheat’s sedan crashed into the side of the train, causing minimal damage to the train and significant damage to his car.
Wheat was not injured, police stated. He was ticketed for running a red light and failure to stop at a railroad crossing, police said.
He is scheduled to appear in New Hartford Town Court, according to the law enforcers.
Authorities said the train was only temporarily stopped on the tracks and resumed its journey shortly thereafter.
