Innovare Advancement Center, in partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, the State University of New York, IBM, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, National Security Innovation Network, NYSTEC and the Griffiss Institute, will host the second event of the Trusted AI (artificial intelligence) Challenge Series to discuss scientific and technical challenge problems in the design, verification, and validation of trusted autonomous systems and open the call for proposals.
The event, Trusted AI - Grounding the Critical Path, will be held on Thursday, April 29. Organizers say that attendees will learn more about the Trusted AI Challenge Problems and funding opportunities for academic, small business, and international R&D communities.
This three-part series is designed to cultivate, define and fund creative solutions to a set of challenge problems in trustworthy AI. During Trusted AI Challenge Series: Event 1 - Building the Vision, a distinguished set of speakers and panelists from academic, government and industry shared their vision on the future of trusted autonomous systems and insights on key research challenges.

Inspired by the vision shared by the distinguished speakers of the Event 1, informed by the technology needs of the partner organizations and drawing upon their expertise as leading researchers and engineers, the members of the Trusted AI Challenge Committee have developed four challenge problems that are critical for the widespread acceptance and adoption of AI systems. The challenges are open to US based academia and small businesses, and the Air Force Research Lab international community. Each challenge problem will receive funding and those interested in submitting proposals are encouraged to view the challenges ahead of the April 29 event, in order to plan and make adequate preparations for the request for proposals.

TOPIC #1: Verification of Autonomous Systems TOPIC #2: Human-Artificial Intelligence Performance Optimization: Trust and Joint Action for Digital Data Analysis TOPIC #3: Dynamic Bi-Directional Trust in Human-AI Collaborative Systems TOPIC #4: Trustworthy AI Certification
The event will conclude in a Chat Room via Discord, for challenge problem Q&A’s, networking and upcoming event information. During this 45-minute online gathering, attendees will mix together into small breakout rooms to discuss each of the four Trusted AI Challenge Problems with the authors of the challenges.
This event is designed for those interested in understanding the challenges that lie ahead as AI systems become increasingly autonomous, dynamically acquire information, and adapt behaviors, including academic and government researchers, university students, and small businesses.
The third events of this series, “Accelerating Progress”, will take place in Summer 2021.
