New Hartford’s Fenner reaches Round of 16 in state tennis tourney; CSC crowns golf champions

New Hartford singles tennis player David Fenner won his opening match Thursday at the state tennis tournament.

Fenner, a junior, earned a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(9-7) victory over Jeet Shahani from Spackenkill High School in the Round of 32 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.

In Fenner’s second match of the day in the Round of 16, he fell 6-1, 6-2 to Maxim Kalinin of Mamaroneck in the single-elimination tournament.

Fenner won the Section III Class B first singles title late last month.

CSC crowns golf champions

The Center State Conference’s 18 teams participated in a medalist tournament Thursday at Cedar Lake Club.

Each of the teams played their top two golfers with a team and individual champion crowned.

The top five teams were: Waterville (152), Clinton (165), Hamilton (165), Oriskany (169) and Holland Patent (173).

The top five individuals were: Gabe Williams, Waterville (74); Jacob Olearczyk, Holland Patent (75); Jaydon Dietz, New York Mills (75); Gavin Poyer, Waterville (78) and Will Chouinard, Hamilton (78).
