Smith Post surrendered seven runs to New Hartford Post in the bottom half of the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in Wednesday night’s 8-7 District V American Legion baseball loss at New Hartford High School.
Justin Swavely took the pitching loss for Rome, tossing 3 2/3 innings, giving up all eight runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out five.
At the plate, Brett Granger had a hit and two RBIs and also walked twice. Ben Minicozzi had a hit and two RBIs as well for Smith.
Smith is 9-5 on the year and next faces Helmuth-Ingalls tonight at 6 p.m. at Rome Free Academy Stadium.
Sherrill wins in extras
Sherrill Post scored one run in the top of the ninth inning to edge Adrean Post 6-5 on the road at Utica College.
Trailing 5-2 heading into the top of the seventh, Sherrill plated three runs to tie the game at 5-5.
Sherrill wraps up the regular season with an overall record of 13-5.
Oriskany Post lost to Whitestown Post, 8-7 in eight innings after Whitestown Post walked off in the bottom half of the inning.
Oriskany, trailing 7-6 heading into the top half of the seventh inning, tied the game after they scored a run in the top half.
Jake Beer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Oriskany and Colton Davis turned in a 2-for-5 day with two RBIs at the plate for Oriskany. Davis also took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings, giving up on run on one hit and he walked one and struck out a batter.
Oriskany finishes the regular season with a 12-8 record.
