NEW HARTFORD — West Genesee edged out host New Hartford 19-18 in a contest of Class A football teams Thursday. West Genny quarterback Vincent Firenze hit Dom Burris for all three touchdowns.

Burris caught a 78-yard TD in the second quarter to open the scoring. New Hartford’s Alex Collver’s seven-yard scoring run tied the game at 6-6 before halftime.

New Hartford took a 12-6 lead in the third when Cole Raux scored on a seven-yard run of his own. Then Burris caught a 29-yard touchdown pass, and the extra point made it 13-12.

Again the Spartans took a lead when Collver scored on the ground from 33 yards out to make it 18-13.

But Burris’ 15-yard catch for a score later in the fourth quarter gave West Genny the one-point lead that it held on to for the win.

Collver ran for 139 yards and the two scores.

Dominic Ambrose was 5-for-11 passing for New Hartford for 25 yards with two interceptions.

New Hartford, now 1-1, hosts Class A team East Syracuse Minoa at 6 p.m. on Friday.
