New Hartford boys earn second seed in Class C lacrosse playoffs
The top seed earned by a local lacrosse team for the Section III postseason is the boys team at New Hartford, which secured the second seed in Class C.
The Spartans were 13-3 in the regular season. They’ve won their last nine games.
New Hartford awaits the winner of seven seed Indian River and 10 seed Cortland for a quarterfinal game at home at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Spartans did not face either team in the regular season.
Here are the other local teams by class:
Class A
Rome Free Academy (7-7) is the five seed and plays at fourth-seeded Syracuse at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the lone quarterfinal.
The winner plays against top-seeded Baldwinsville at Cicero-North Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Class C
Whitesboro (11-5), the eight seed, hosted Fulton, the nine seed, Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
If the Warriors win, they advance to a quarterfinal at top-seeded Jamesville-DeWitt at 7 Wednesday night.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (2-10) is the 11 seed and played at six seed Carthage Tuesday in the first round. Results were not available at press time. If the Red Devils win, they advance to a quartefinal game at three seed Westhill at 5 Wednesday night.
Girls
Here are the local teams by class:
Class A
RFA (11-5) is the four seed and hosted Syracuse, the five seed, in the lone quarterfinal game, Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
The winner moves on to face top seed Baldwinsville at 5 p.m. Thursday at Central Square. The other semifinal on Thursday at Central Square is two seed Cicero-North Syracuse and three seed Liverpool at 7 p.m.
Class C
Whitesboro (10-6), the six seed played at Fulton, the three seed, on Tuesday. New Hartford (6-10), the seven seed, played Tuesday at Jamesville-DeWitt, the two seed. Results were not available at press time.
The winners of those quarterfinal games play each other Thursday at Chittenango at a time to be announced.
Class D
Clinton, the eight seed, hosted nine seed Chittango on Monday. The Warriors won 10-7 Monday to improve to 7-10 this season.
The Warriors advanced to play at top seed South Jefferson Tuesday night.
Results were not available at press time.
VVS, the 12 seed, lost 17-4 at five seed Marcellus on Monday. The Red Devils end the season at 1-13.
