Neil Washburn, 53, passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2020 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Il. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on April 12, 1966, the son of Warren and Barbara (Miller) Washburn. He was a 1984 graduate of Rome Free Academy and earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Rochester in 1988. On May 3, 1997, he married Julie McDermott, and they enjoyed a loving marriage for 23 years.
During his career Neil was employed by several technology companies including The 485 EIG at Griffiss Air Force Base, Lucent Technologies, and Nokia. At the time of his passing he was working for Aeris Communications in Chicago.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Julie, are his children Sara, Luke and Catie of Naperville; his brother Don and his wife Martha of Rome, N.Y.; his brother Todd and his wife Kim; and nephew Jonathan of Durham N.C. He was predeceased by his parents, Luke and Barbara.
During his high school years Neil enjoyed scouting and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a diehard N.Y. Giants fan. He also enjoyed golf, poker and taking long rides in the mountains. The times he enjoyed the most were the times he spent with his family on road trips, watching cooking shows and cooking up some awesome meals. He has touched the lives of many with his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity. He will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are under the care of Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, Naperville, Il. As per Neil’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Neil’s life will be held on February 22, 2020 at 4 p.m. at Quigley’s Irish Pub in Naperville.
