Naturally Lewis seeks developers for former school

GLENFIELD — Naturally Lewis, in partnership with Lewis County, has released a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) to identify respondents interested in acquiring and redeveloping a 6.9-acre former elementary school property at 5960 Main St.

Naturally Lewis and Lewis County are looking for respondents that have a vision for the property that will support economic growth in the local community and region.

“Board and staff members welcome creative redevelopment ideas and concepts that take advantage of the assets Lewis County offers. We are prioritizing housing and/or lodging concepts but will consider other options as long as it shows significant community benefit” said Executive Director Brittany Davis.

Up until the summer of 2021, the property had been used as an elementary school. Lewis County owns the site and is using it for temporary office space until May 2023. The parcel has more than 40,000 square feet of maintained and usable area and is centrally located in the Black River Valley between the Tug Hill and the Adirondack Park with easy access from Route 12. It has nearby access to the Black River and direct access to ATV and snowmobile trail systems. It is serviced with natural gas, high speed internet, electric (with 100kw emergency generator), and nearby public transportation.

Lewis County officials say the property “is ideal for conversion to apartments, senior living, hotel, office, retail, a community center, mixed use or any other endless possibilities.”

Expressions of interest are being accepted through Jan. 31. The document can be downloaded by visiting the Naturally Lewis website: https://naturallylewis.com/growing-opportunities/glenfield-school-development-opportunity

Officials will use the preliminary information provided by respondents to chart the next steps for the disposition of the property. For information, contact Cheyenne Steria by phone at 315-376-3014 or by email at cheyenne@naturallylewis.com.
