Nancy C. Ward, 87, of Richmond, VA and formerly of Rome and Holland Patent, NY, was called home by God on May 26, 2019. She was born in Rochester, NY on August 17, 1931, daughter of Sidney and Addie Cockett. Nancy was joined in marriage to Charles L. Ward in Oaks Corners, NY on May 30, 1953. She and Charles were married for 62 years before his passing in 2015. She then moved to Richmond, VA to live with her daughter. Nancy was employed by the Holland Patent School district as the secretary of General William Floyd Elementary School for 22 years. Many students and teachers who passed through the school will fondly remember Mrs. Ward. She was an active member of Rome Alliance Church until moving to Richmond. Nancy impacted many lives throughout her lifetime with her caring nature and generous spirit.
Surviving Nancy are two brothers, William and David Cockett; two daughters and son-in-law, Gale and David Thomas, Parker, Colorado and Paula Seelman, Richmond, Virginia; four granddaughters, Jessica Gluck, Sarah Thomas, Jennifer Sobrito and Amanda Petersen-Schreiber; one great-granddaughter, Aria Sobrito. Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband Charles Ward, a brother Kenneth Cockett, and a son-in-law Randie Seelman.
There are no calling hours or funeral services planned. The family requests that in her memory donations be made to either American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
