UTICA — The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute 2020 Arts Festival has been cancelled due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials at Munson-Williams said cancelling the annual event was an extremely difficult decision knowing that this signature week-long festival is a regional highlight each summer.
They cited health concerns as the reason for the cancellation, and noted that the organization’s three-month closure also added complications to their ability to present the event.
“For 80 years, the Arts Festival has been a summertime tradition and a community celebration of the arts. The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our first priority, and a crowded public event would not be appropriate at this time. We look forward to returning next summer,” said Anna D’Ambrosio, Munson-Williams president and CEO.
The Arts Festival, originally scheduled for July 14 through 19, features the popular Sidewalk Art Show, live performances, children’s activities, special tours of the Museum of Art, The Big Ol’ Steamrollin’ Print Invitational, and the Antique Car and Motorcycle Show.
