The Mohawk Valley Community College women's tennis team has claimed a third consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association Region III women's tennis title.

Mohawk Valley earned seven of nine total points over Hudson Valley Community College and third-place Herkimer College. The Hawks won five of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles matches last weekend.

The singles champions and first team all-region selections are Poland graduate Julia Cucci, Sauquoit Valley grad Philymena Dikar, Rome Free Academy grad Callie Ott, Mount Markham grad Kaitlyn Fitch and Hannah Richter (not from the Mohawk Valley). Cucci, Ott and Fitch are sophomores at MVCC. Dikar and Richter are freshmen at MVCC.

Thomas R. Proctor High School grad Rebecca Huynh earned second team all-region honors.

Cucci, Ott, Fitch and Richter were also doubles champions and first team all-region selections. Dikar and Huynh earned second team all-region for their championship appearance in the doubles flight.

MVCC's Nick Evanoff was named the Region III Coach of the Year following the tournament.

The team is set to participate in the national championship tournament, which is from Friday, Nov. 4 to Sunday, Nov. 6 in Peachtree City, Georgia.
