MVCC to host several summer sports camps

Mohawk Valley Community College will host several summer sports camps this summer for youth and teens at the College’s Utica campus, 1101 Sherman Drive. Camps include baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and volleyball.

Preregistration is encouraged for all camps to ensure a camper’s spot. To register for any of the camps listed below, visit www.gomvhawks/information/camps.

• Boys Baseball Camp. Designed for ages 7-15, this camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 15-19, at the Jorgensen Athletic and Event Center. A typical day will include team stretching, throwing progression, defensive position play, hitting, group instruction and sandlot games with coaches. Campers will be placed in groups based on age. All campers should bring sneakers for indoor play in case of inclement weather, glove, water bottle and lunch if not purchasing a meal plan. Campers may bring their own bat and helmet. There are several price options to choose from, and all include supplemental camp insurance and a camp T-shirt. • Boys’ Basketball Camp. Designed for ages 6-17, this camp will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 30, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, July 1-Wednesday, July 3. A typical day will include skills instruction, games with coach point guards, small groups for individual instruction, age-appropriate contests and activities and team-building activities. The cost of the camp is $125, which includes supplemental camp insurance, camp shirt and a basketball. Prizes will be awarded on the last day of camp. • Junior Hawks Summer Basketball Camp. For boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade, this camp is designed to make learning basketball fundamentals fun for young players. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Thursday, July 22-25. Campers will be placed in age- and skill-appropriate groups to increase learning and interest in the sport. The camp will focus on skills instruction, and include games with coach point guards, small groups for individual instruction, age-appropriate contests and team-building activities. The cost is $65, and includes supplemental camp insurance and basketball jersey. Campers are asked to bring their own lunch, sneakers, shorts and water bottle. • Girls’ Basketball Camp. Designed for ages 7-16, this camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 29-Aug. 1. A typical day will include individual skills development, team skills development, five-on-five games, three-on-three games, one-on-one games, shooting competitions and camp contests. The cost is $125, and includes supplemental camp insurance, MVCC women’s basketball shirt and a basketball. Campers should bring their own lunch, sneakers, shorts and water bottle. • Boys Lacrosse Skills Camp. Designed for ages 7-18, this camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Aug. 12-15. Campers will be placed in age-appropriate groups. A typical day will include warm-up, stick work sessions, individual station work to cover basic knowledge of each position, group instruction, shooting and games and competitions. The cost of the camp is $120 per camper, and includes supplemental camp insurance and a Hawks Lacrosse Camp shirt. Campers should bring their own lunch and water, sneakers, cleats, sticks, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, goalie chest and throat protectors. • Boys and Girls Soccer Camp. Designed for boys and girls ages 7-16, this camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30-Wednesday, July 3. The camp will offer technical, individual ball skills, and group and team tactics, with instruction for all ability levels. It is organized into three separate ability divisions for skill, tactic, and game sessions, allowing for maximum skill development and fun for all ages. There also will be camp league games and contests. The camp will be led by MVCC women’s soccer coach Jim Vitale, and men’s soccer coach Dominic DiMaggio will lead a Goal Keeper Camp. The cost of the camp is $100 (family rate on three or more), and includes a soccer ball and shirt. Each camper should bring shin guards, soccer cleats, indoor footwear and a water bottle. • Softball All-Skills Camp. Designed for girls ages 8-18, this camp will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 22-25. The camp will focus on technical and tactical skills, enabling campers to begin preparation for the spring season in a contained, focused and competitive environment. Day camps feature advanced training techniques and fun, game-related activities for all players, including defensive position play, hitting, pitcher and catcher training and pickup games. The cost of the camp is $120, with a $10 discount for multiple family members, and includes a Softball Camp shirt and supplemental camp insurance. Campers should bring their own sneakers, cleats, glove, helmet, bat, catchers gear, pitchers mask, water bottle, snacks, lunch and water. • Girls Volleyball Camp. Designed for girls in grades 7-12, this camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday, Aug. 5-9, and will focus on mastering basic skill sets and fostering a sense of team and sportsmanship. Campers will be grouped according to age and ability. The cost of the camp is $75, which includes a camp shirt and supplemental camp insurance.
