MVCC-Rome steps up

We want to give a yule salute to the Rome Student Activities group at Mohawk Valley Community College’s Rome campus for donating $1,000 worth of toys to the Rome Alliance for Education Community Schools organization.

During this busy time of the year, for students and the public, it would be all too easy to forget the needy among us.

But the students helped out. MVCC students Arica Rudd and Samantha Knecht volunteered time to shop for the donations, which, the school district said, included popular toys for all ages. Sheryl Williams, assistant for Student Engagement and Activities for MVCC, said: “I was delighted to see the enthusiasm and commitment to the project from the members of Rome Student Activities.”

The Community Schools program also was grateful. Rome Alliance for Education Executive Director Melissa Roys, who made a presentation, said the program thanks MVCC for stepping “up to the plate. We are so thankful for this contribution, and I’m sure the kids will be also when they see these under their trees.”
