BARNEVELD — An all-star roster of Central New York musicians will share their talents to benefit cancer patient Nicole Deveny Gaines-Parker - the daughter of one of their own - from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at Unity Hall, 101 Vanderkemp Ave.

“This is going to be a great afternoon of music made by people who love the person it benefits,” promised musician George Deveny, Gaines-Parker’s father.

“I have known Nicole for her entire life,” added Ed Rosenburgh, Deveny’s bandmate and longtime family friend. “She has grown into an intelligent, industrious, resourceful and caring woman, mother, daughter and friend. She has such a positive attitude toward facing the scariest parts of her disease. Nicole is an inspiration to all who know her.”

Bands performing at the benefit include Blueprints, The Dust Devil Band and The Brian Mulkerne Band, and special guest musicians from around the region are also expected to join the festivities There will be a silent auction and baked goods for sale at the concert. All proceeds will benefit Gaines-Parker and her family.

Blueprints features two New York Blues Hall of Fame members, vocalist/guitarist Deveny and vocalist/pianist Dave Liddy, along with groove-master drummer Oscar Crandall and bassist Ken McConnell Jr.

The Dust Devil Band - with Rosenburgh on vocals, guitar and harmonica; George Newton on pedal steel guitar; Darryl Mattison on drums; Dane Porter on bass and vocals; and Deveny on vocals and guitar - plays American roots music and country rock.

Brian Mulkerne Band plays blues and psychedelic folk-rock and is made up of Mulkerne on vocals and guitar; Tim Baldwin on vocals, guitar and fiddle; drummer Crandall; bassist McConnell Jr. and Deveny on slide guitar.

All of the musicians were eager to help out, Deveny said.

“I knew Nicole needed help and figured I could call on my friends - and they all immediately said yes,” he complimented. “This is going to be a very special event.”

“Making music with my friends has become the most rewarding part of my life,” Rosenburgh said. “George has been a member of the DDB for over 40 years. We are a family and this is what families do - step up when someone is in need. I’m sure all the other musicians who will be there that day will have similar thoughts.”
