Munson-Williams social mixer celebrates Native American heritage
UTICA — November’s First Friday Happy Hour features a celebration of Native American Heritage Month, live music and the launch of the Utica Proud app from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, 310 Genesee St.
Curator Mary Murray will offer a gallery talk about works on view by Native American artists represented in the museum’s permanent collection, including cultural liaison Danielle Schenandoah, who is working with MWPAI for two years through a Creatives Rebuild New York artist grant. In addition to art activities highlighting Native American heritage will be live music by Annie and the Hedonists, who will perform acoustic blues, jazz, swing and roots music.
MWPAI is supporting Utica’s economic development efforts by hosting the launch of the city’s Utica Proud app, which rewards users for shopping locally with “half moon” points. Representatives from the app’s developers, Colu, will answer questions and offer free admission to the event for the first 20 attendees, half moon cookies and other giveaways.
Admission to the event is $5. For more information, visit www.mwpai.org.
