Multi-vehicle crash on New York State Thruway

Posted
Around 2:20 p.m. Sunday, an accident shut down the eastbound lanes of the New York State Thruway between Exit 32 (Westmoreland) and Exit 31 (Utica).

According to the New York State Police, there was almost no visibility and that as many as 20 vehicles were involved.

Many of the damaged cars were being towed to the tandem lot near the Utica exit of the thruway.

Lexi Jamieson Marsh, her husband, and their young son were driving from Ohio to Lake Placid to celebrate their anniversary with friends. "We were driving along when we hit a snow squall and couldn't see anything. The next thing we knew, we are in a 20-car pileup," she said.

Some changes were made to their plans — they made arrangements to  spend the night in a hotel in Utica, get a rental car, and then try to meet up with their friends in Lake Placid on Monday.

According to the state police, there were no serious injuries.
