The local chapter of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club will make their sixth annual awareness ride through Oneida and Herkimer counties on Saturday.

The RKMC was founded in Massachusetts in 1983 and is comprised of members of the fire service.

The local chapter of the RKMC will ride rain or shine through the county starting at 10:30 a.m. The ride will raise money for the Believe 271 Foundation, a local charity that helps firefighters and auxiliary members battling cancer and other serious illnesses.

This is the sixth year of the local Firefighter’s Brotherhood MC Ride for Awareness of Cancer and other Serious Illness in the Fire Service. Officials said last year’s ride raised more than $1,500 for Believe 271.

The ride will start at the Westmoreland Fire Department on Station Road. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an opening speaker at 9 a.m. and a bike blessing at 9:30 a.m. Kick stands up at 10:30 a.m.

The ride will pass through Oriskany, Whitesboro, Yorkville and Utica, then into Herkimer County at Frankfort, Ilion, Mohawk and Richfield, before heading back into southern Oneida County and ending back at the Westmoreland Fire Station.

The ride will end with food, raffles and fellowship in Westmoreland at 2:30 p.m.

The ride is open to the public and anyone with a street-legal motorcycle.
