Mother accused of spraying teen with pepper spray, shoving youth

VILLAGE OF CAMDEN — A 37-year-old mother is accused of spraying her teenager with pepper spray and shoving her younger child.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to a domestic dispute on Moran Post Road at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies said they learned that Tammy M. Joy, of Camden, sprayed her 15-year-old child with pepper spray and pushed her 12-year-old child during the dispute.

The teen was treated at the scene by Camden Ambulance, authorities said.

Joy was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital for evaluation after authorities said she ingested both alcohol and prescription medication. Deputies said Joy is charged with one count each of first-degree contempt, a class E felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Joy is scheduled to appear in Village Court.
