NORWAY — A 60-year-old woman is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty for not properly caring for more than 80 goats, donkeys and cows in Herkimer County.

State police said Lorraine A. Rose, of 3403 Military Road, was attempting to care for the animals on her property and became overwhelmed, prompting an investigation by the local animal cruelty officer. The state police were called to assist on May 9 and found that the animals had not been properly cared for and were in grave condition.

Over 80 goats were voluntarily surrendered to Pause 4 All Paws Animal Rescue.

Rose is charged with five counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, a misdemeanor, troopers said. She is scheduled to be in court.

The investigation into the property remains ongoing.
