A cardiac and thoracic surgery group has been added at the Mohawk Valley Health System Medical Group.
The doctors have admitting privileges at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and their office is in the Marian Medical Professional Building, 2211 Genesee St., Utica.
Dr. Laszlo Fuzesi was named chief of cardiothoracic surgery. He specializes in operations on the heart, lungs, esophagus and other organs in the chest. Prior to joining the MVHS Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Group, he most recently served as the chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
Fuzesi earned his medical degree at Cornell University Medical College. He completed a general surgery internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and a cardiac transplantation research fellowship at Columbia University, both in New York City. He is board certified in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Anne Cahil also specializes in operations on the heart, lungs, esophagus and other organs in the chest, as well as women’s cardiac health. She previously was a cardiac and thoracic surgeon at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh.
She earned her medical degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. She completed her residency in general surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where she was chief resident. Cahill also completed fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery and transplant surgery at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. She is board certified in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Frederic Joyce specializes in aortic and mitral valve surgery, hybrid coronary revascularization and intra-operative echocardiography. He has been a cardiothoracic surgeon with the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute since it began in 1997 and has been a member of the medical staff at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare.
Dr. Joyce was previously affiliated with the Mohawk Valley Surgery Group.
He received his medical degree from Aarhus University Medical School in Denmark. He completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Rigshopitalet-Copenhagen University Hospital in Copenhagen and cardiothoracic surgery and echocardiography fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board certified in thoracic surgery, perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and is a registered physician in vascular interpretation.
Additionally, three certified physician assistants have joined the staff.
Katrina Abdalla previously worked in obstetrics and gynecology as a medical assistant in Gaffney, S.C. She earned her bachelor of science in biology, chemistry and pre-med studies from Nazareth College in Rochester and her master of health science in physician assistant studies from Le Moyne College.
Lindsey Byrnes previously worked at the Mohawk Valley Surgery Group. She earned her bachelor of arts in biology at Hamilton College and her master of science in physician assistant studies at Le Moyne.
Connor Gill previously worked at the Cardiovascular Group of Syracuse in Liverpool and at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Emergency Department in North Syracuse. Gill earned his bachelor of science in biology from Rutgers University in New Jersey and his master of science in physician assistant studies at Le Moyne.
All three are members of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York State Society for Physician Assistants.
