TOWN OF STEUBEN — A 37-year-old woman was hospitalized after a medical episode caused her to pass out behind the wheel on Route 12 in Steuben Wednesday evening.

Sheriff’s deputies said Elizabeth Griffith, of Holland Patent, was southbound on Route 12 at about 6:45 p.m. when she experienced a medical event and lost consciousness. Deputies said her 2015 Ford Fusion left the roadway and hit a billboard on the western shoulder, then came to rest down an embankment. Griffith was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities said. No tickets were issued.
