Medical emergency leads to crash

A medical emergency behind the wheel on West Thomas Street sent a 49-year-old man to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies said Brian Defraine, of Lee Center, was driving on West Thomas Street in the outer district at about 5:43 p.m. when he suffered a medical emergency.

Deputies said Defraine’s vehicle left the roadway and hit a telephone pole before coming to rest in a wooded area.

Defraine suffered injuries in the crash and he was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital, authorities said. The accident remains under investigation.
